Planning Your Winter Ski Adventure

January 12th, 2008 By SHR

Yes, it's cold, but that is to be expected for the winter ski season in the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina.

This is a great time of year to get the lead out and plan a little ski getaway for the entire family, or group. Sugar Hollow can accommodate all of your travel needs and we are just a jump away from great skiing at Ski Beech and Sugar Mountain Resort.

Now that we have your attention, it's time to let you know the easiest way to plan your getaway weekend (or week, or longer...).

First things first, decide on where you will be staying. We hope if you've made it this far you will be staying with us! We cater to families and groups and our four guest houses have 3-5 bdrooms and can each accommodate 8-14 people. The 10 bedroom lodge can sleep up to 30.

Next, if you are traveling with family, and this is your first time out, the question may be in your mind as to whether or not you should buy your skis, or rent them. We definitely suggest you rent them for your first time out to make sure you and skiing agree with each other. Oh, and be sure to buy the insurance plan that is offered with most rentals just in case you break a ski (however it probably won't cover any other bodily damage incurred).

Now, on to the little details like lift tickets. If you buy them in advance or in multiple day increments, you will probably get a better deal. You can also check out ebay to see if there are any vouchers on sale (if you are looking to save money) and some local stores offer a discount on lift tickets if you purchase a certain dollar amount of items in their store.

Of course, you have to eat and depending on where you choose to stay, will have a lot to do with your dining options. The great thing about staying with us at Sugar Hollow is you can get your family together and make your own meal(s) while you are here. Not only will it save money, it will also insure you get the most time together out of your trip as possible. We suggest bringing a few things with you if you choose this option like drinks and other items for lunch and dinner.

One last tip; if you are traveling with smaller children, make sure to check out the childcare options and try to make your reservations as far as advance as possible to insure your children a spot in any of the activities offered for their age group.

Last but not least, pack up the car and go. Be sure to pack plenty of sweaters, toss in you heavy coat along with other warm clothes and psych yourself up for a great time with the people you love, skiing, enjoying hot chocolate, but most of all enjoying the time you have together.

If you've made it this far and the urge to get a group together for a weekend ski adventure, let us know. Call us at 1-800-957-1776 to check for rates, current specials and availability.
